Dyslexia is a learning difference that mainly affects reading and writing. Approximately 10% of the population has dyslexia. Although people with dyslexia sometimes struggle with spelling, grammar, and short-term working memory, there are many strengths associated with dyslexia.

Strengths

πŸ‘€ Spatial reasoning

Studies have shown that people with dyslexia have good visuospatial skills, often above that of neurotypical people. This might make them good at art, architecture, or other careers, hobbies or skills that involve visualisation.

People with dyslexia are often great at thinking outside the box. This means they can come up with creative solutions to any problem.

🎨 Creativity

People with dyslexia tend to be particularly creative, helped by their vivid imagination and original ideas. Whoopi Goldberg, John Lennon and Tom Cruise all have dyslexia and are particularly creative people!

πŸ—£ Communication

People with dyslexia are often great storytellers, good at assessing situations and explaining themselves clearly.

βš– Reasoning

People with dyslexia often can identify and understand patterns easily and then assess the information logically. They draw on their critical thinking and problem-solving skills when making decisions based on new information.

Everyone with dyslexia is unique and strengths can vary from person to person. It’s important to understand your personal strengths as this increases your confidence, self-awareness, and personal growth. Understanding other peoples strengths can also help you build stronger relationships, foster empathy and collaborate better together!
